The Dusty Art Room

Forgive me, for falling behind on my art student of the month nominations.  January, February and March keep me busy between the musical set design, yearbook deadlines and the school wide art show in March at Open House. Art Students of the Month are recognized for their leadership skills, dedication to art making, and commitment to improving their artistic craft. 6th Grade: Guiliana Benabdallah 7th Grade: Yulissa Mendez 8th Grade: Habram Hernandez Giuliana: Has shown a huge improvement in her attention to detail and perseverance with her projects.  When her watercolor painting did not turn out how she wanted, she showed perseverance when going back and trying again.  Her plaster mask is full of detail work and showcases her observing and art making skills. Each month I like to take a few moments to recognize those students who show exemplary work in the art room.  These students work hard, contribute to a positive and peaceful environment and challenge themselves to improve their work with each project.   December Art Students of the Month 6th Grade: Matilde Merlos 7th Grade: Jason Merino-Garcia 8th Grade: Dominika Dybas 6th Grade: Matilde Merlos Matilde has a natural inclination toward art, but she doesn't let that go to waste.  With each project, Matilde pushes herself to improve her art making skills, observe more carefully and make sure that her work is original and creative.   7th Grade: Jason Merino-Garcia Jason is new to Hester art this year, but that hasn't stopped him one bit!  He uses the classroom resources to guide him through the steps of his project, and takes the time to read his feedback and use it to learn and grow. October was a crazy month!  I attended a local professional development opportunity, attended my state conference where I presented two workshops, painted the windows of downtown Franklin Park for Halloween, switched trimesters, had parent teacher conferences, created portraits for the Memory Project and participated in our first Artist Trading Card Swap- and that's all within a couple of weeks!
