Activity Day Part Two

The last day before break, Hester students get the opportunity to sign up for special activities hosted by their teachers for the last two hours of the day.  The day was filled with cookie baking, movie watching, card making, guacamole, basketball, handball, board games, sugar scrub making, spa room, computer games, gaming truck, needle felting and a whole lot more!  Special thanks to Mrs. Sanchez and Mrs. Ignacio for organizing the day! IAEA Conference 2017

One of my favorite times of year is the annual Illinois Art Education Association fall conference because I get to teach and learn with hundreds of art teachers from around the state.  This year I presented two workshops: Recyclables to Magnificent Papier Mache Sculptures and Involving Students in the Assessment Process.  Both sessions went great and had a positive response from the participants. In the papier mache workshop I explained to teachers how I approach teaching papier mache at Hester and then let teachers dive right in to create their own sculptures.  Here are a few photos from that session: After lunch I attended a session from an amazing teacher, Michelle Lynn from Downers Grove South High School (who is one of the teachers I student taught with) on using blogs and tumblr to share, critique and assess student artwork. 8th Grade Dinner Dance 2016

The 2016 Dinner Dance was a wonderful celebration for our soon-to-be-graduated 8th grade students!  All the students enjoyed the dinner and the dancing commemorating their last few weeks at Hester.  We will miss our 8th graders when they are gone, but we can send them off happily knowing that great things await them in their future.
