Welcome to The Dusty Art Room! I teach 6th - 8th grade art and I believe in running an art room that students aren't afraid to get messy in! On most days you will find a trail of clay, plaster or chalk dust coming from my classroom.

The 2016 Dinner Dance was a wonderful celebration for our soon-to-be-graduated 8th grade students! All the students enjoyed the dinner and the dancing commemorating their last few weeks at Hester. We will miss our 8th graders when they are gone, but we can send them off happily knowing that great things await them in their future.
One of my favorite times of year is the annual Illinois Art Education Association fall conference because I get to teach and learn with hundreds of art teachers from around the state. This year I presented two workshops: Recyclables to Magnificent Papier Mache Sculptures and Involving Students in the Assessment Process. Both sessions went great and had a positive response from the participants. In the papier mache workshop I explained to teachers how I approach teaching papier mache at Hester and then let teachers dive right in to create their own sculptures. The West Suburban Consortium of Academic Excellence (WSCAE) is a partnership of 15 school districts from Burr Ridge to Franklin Park and from Oak Brook to Oak Park. The WSCAE sponsored art expo was at the Cheney Mansion for the second year and it was a gorgeous event on a beautiful Saturday! Sponsors for the event include: Sax Art Materials who generously donated a variety of art supplies including markers, watercolors, and pencils. Blick Art Materials donated markers, store coupons and 3 $100 gift cards. Cheney Mansion donated the space for the weekend. Joel Chung Center for the Arts donated pencils for writing fan mail and snacks for the teachers.
