IAEA Student Art Show


We were fortunate to be part of the Illinois Art Education Association Student Art Show at the Fall Conference this year!  I entered about 15 student artworks in the spring for judging and Luciana Calabria's artwork was one of 40 artworks selected for the show from over 650 entries!

A huge shout out to Eryn Blaser and Venessa Hardy who coordinate the show - what a lot of work!  

At the IAEA fall conference, there is an awards ceremony to honor the students for their hard work and dedication.  Luciana was able to attend and bring with the family for this special occasion.  Each student was presented with a goody bag and a certificate.  The artwork will travel the state over the next year to be seen by lots of viewers!  

Congrats Luciana! Always keep on creating!

IAEA Conference 2017

One of my favorite times of year is the annual Illinois Art Education Association fall conference because I get to teach and learn with hundreds of art teachers from around the state.  This year I presented two workshops: Recyclables to Magnificent Papier Mache Sculptures and Involving Students in the Assessment Process.  Both sessions went great and had a positive response from the participants. East Leyden Winter Art Show

I LOVE getting the chance to display student art at the East Leyden art show each year.  Not only does it give me a chance to display some of the AMAZING work of my students, but it also lets me check out the work of former students.  Hester students are so lucky to have such an amazing art department open to them in high school. AP Art: Students that have taken 3 or more art classes that work to put together an art portfolio to submit for college credit.  We had 4 Hester alum featured in the show: Alejandro Martinez, Alyssa Guillu, and Sara Snopek & Sebastian Portillo.  I am so proud of these students! Alyssa is a senior and is planning to major in biochemistry next year.  She said that amid her 6 AP art classes, she love to have art in the middle of her day as it gives her some peaceful reflective time.  Gerardo Villa was at the opening reception and took me around to see three of his artworks on display.  He is a junior this year and explained to me that he

West Suburban Consortium of Academic Excellence Second Annual Art Expo 2016

The West Suburban Consortium of Academic Excellence (WSCAE) is a partnership of 15 school districts from Burr Ridge to Franklin Park and from Oak Brook to Oak Park.  The WSCAE sponsored  art expo was at the Cheney Mansion for the second year and it was a gorgeous event on a beautiful Saturday! Sponsors for the event include: Sax Art Materials who generously donated a variety of art supplies including markers, watercolors, and pencils.   Blick Art Materials donated markers, store coupons and 3 $100 gift cards.   Cheney Mansion donated the space for the weekend.  Joel Chung Center for the Arts donated pencils for writing fan mail and snacks for the teachers.  The three winners of the $100 gift cards were:  Simran Goel from Gower West,  Gower School District #62 Gwynnethe Andal from Passow, Franklin Park School District #84 Kathryn Curtin, Julian Middle School, Oak Park District #97 We were fortunate enough to have State Representative Camille Lilly visit the show a
