A Day in 8th Grade Art

I took this video clip a couple weeks ago.  It was one of those moments where I stopped moving for a moment and realized that not only was every student engrossed in their project, but there were so many different mediums being used simultaneously, it was definitely video worthy!  

I hope you enjoy seeing this little glimpse into the art room!  Every day students rise to the high standards and expectations and continually surprise me with the brilliant projects they produce.  I am one proud art teacher!

    A day in 8th grade art is filled with creativity, exploration, and opportunities for students to express their ideas. The class begins with learning new techniques, studying different forms of art, and discussing how artists use color, shape, texture, and design to communicate messages. Students work on a variety of projects that encourage imagination while developing their artistic skills and confidence.

    Beyond creating artwork, 8th grade art helps students develop patience, observation, and problem-solving abilities.IEEE Projects for CSE. Through individual assignments and group activities, students learn to appreciate different perspectives and experiment with new approaches. Each class becomes a chance to discover creativity, build self-expression, and enjoy the process of turning ideas into visual experiences.

I am lucky enough to have wonderful students at Hester who love to go above and beyond the call of duty.  I co-sponsor yearbook club with Ms. Ryan and we have a wonderful committed group this year that is working on creating a FABULOUS yearbook.  As our official yearbook photographer, Sebastian Portillo spent two games before winter break capturing these action-packed shots of the Hester Boys Basketball Team and I couldn't wait for the yearbook release to share these photos.  Check it out!  Thanks Sebastian for your awesome hard work!

IAEA Conference 2017

One of my favorite times of year is the annual Illinois Art Education Association fall conference because I get to teach and learn with hundreds of art teachers from around the state.  This year I presented two workshops: Recyclables to Magnificent Papier Mache Sculptures and Involving Students in the Assessment Process.  Both sessions went great and had a positive response from the participants. East Leyden Winter Art Show

I LOVE getting the chance to display student art at the East Leyden art show each year.  Not only does it give me a chance to display some of the AMAZING work of my students, but it also lets me check out the work of former students.  Hester students are so lucky to have such an amazing art department open to them in high school. AP Art: Students that have taken 3 or more art classes that work to put together an art portfolio to submit for college credit.  We had 4 Hester alum featured in the show: Alejandro Martinez, Alyssa Guillu, and Sara Snopek & Sebastian Portillo.  I am so proud of these students!
